Strauss and sister from the Delano Heights bungalow colony in question earlier on the page are Michele (Inter Girls photo 1964) and Adrienne Strauss! They wrote to me while they were browsing the site and I must say that it's a kick to get the prospective of someone who has not seen the site grow to where it is now - we have a lot of amazing pictures and memories catalogued here! ---Steve

Sue "Shoshana" Rachlin writes: Greetings all from the beautiful land of Israel where I have been since October 4th. Its been three years since I've been back here and the land has grown even more beautiful. Driving through the cities has been phenomenal...Tel Aviv is beginning to look like New York with the growth of the most interesting and exotic high-rise buildings. The newest one is 70 stories tall and the tallest so far in the Middle East. The economy is as bad as it is in the US but Israelis live in spite of everything. I've never seen so many pregnant women and so many new-borns in strollers and not just in the orthodox community. We suffer tragedies when Arab terrorists kill young soldiers...18-20 year olds...and children. The Arabs suffer as well but if they could only understand that Arafat is not interested in peace, only the total destruction of Israel and is using his own people as pawns in this most stupid of wars. *There is a severe problem on the college campuses in the US. Countries like Saudi Arabia (you've heard of them, no doubt...America's "friend"?) sends millions of dollars to the top universities in our country to fund Middle East studies programs emphasizing the plight of the Arabs (read, Palestinians.) This anti-Israel pr campaign is spreading around the country, fostering anti-Semitism among the students and teaching staff, thereby intimidating the Jewish students who, fearing all sort of attacks, have decided to keep a low profile and not be actively involved in repudiating this cancerous spread of hate. Those of you who have children in college, encourage them to stand up to the hate-mongers. Let them contact the Hillel Organization on campus; the Anti-Defamation League; their congressmen and senators; write letters and request reading material that will give them pointers on how to respond to those who side with the Arabs and condemn Israel. Hand them the values you learned way back when as campers and counselors. *WE MUST STAND TOGETHER AND STAMP OUT ANTI-SEMITISM WHEREVER AND WHENEVER IT SHOWS ITS UGLINESS!

Especially important since these are very special people that attended Camp Shoshana. They send their greetings in time of need with or without thank yous. I thank all of you wonderful folks who took the time out to send your wishes at my father's passing. They were and still are with me in my heart, my brother also was touched. My father was probably the oldest camper that Sue and Harry ever had, he loved the Camp and Paradise Park Bungalow Colony. He always talked of the fun had by all there. I have come up with a wealth of photos from my days at Shoshana. They cover many memories, plays, swimming sessions and "other days in our lives". My mother and I were having a quick session going through photos to bring to my sunshine, Marjie's son's bar-mitzvah. Imagine that we are still inseperable over the miles. They will be a week to late though for the reunion festivities, but I will scan and send them for the web-site. As you can see Sue,I still have so many things to say. You were such a dear to open your home and heart to me for so many wonderful years. And you were always right about everything!

Sue Rachlin writes: Thanks everyone for the pictures (even tho some of them were a bit fuzzy and that made it difficult for me to identify a few of you. Steve Kolodny, please give the photographer wannabes a course in better picture-taking!) * It seems as though you all had a great time and that pleases me no end. For sure, Wayne knows how to throw a party. I was a bit dismayed to see all those pictures of popes looking down at a simcha of Shoshana-ites. Did you guys and gals forget everything you learned at camp all those years ago??? Huh??? *I'm truly looking forward to the big one this coming summer. May I suggest that each of you who are planning to attend make it a point to convince at least one other who has not responded to any of the reunions to come to this one. Keep in mind that a FIFTIETH commemoration of anything happens only once and once only. I am inviting friends and relatives to share this occasion with me, Ellen and Andrew. *Had a great idea for the program: those of you attending who at some time performed in one of our unforgettable shows, please practice up on the song/s you sang, get hold of the sheet-music and I will hire the services of a good piano accompanist. I can recall Stacey Halio sitting on top of the old piano singing A Person Could Develop a Cold; Steve Salamon with his rendition of If I Were A Rich Man; Marc Shapiro as the King of Siam; Arthur Albstein as Baron von Trapp; Joan Albstein Climbing Every Mountain; where is Rochelle Strenger our Snow White; Alan Sherman and Edwin Levy...Snoopy and Linus; Evan Graber singing Oh What A Beautiful Morning; Bradley Bleefeld, the Wandering Minstrel and current grandfather of two; Ira Presser can teach the Pata-Pata. Oh, don't make me tax my memory anymore...don't say TRY, just DO! The more I think about this celebration, the more excited I get and for an old woman, well, I've gotta be careful! *Let's have some more input from more of you. *Note to Wayne: If we're having a mini-reunion in New York next month, please have it at Ben's Kosher Delicatessen, 209 W. 38 St. @ 7th Ave...they have a private room and parking is easy on Saturday night, or the Second Ave. Kosher Deli, Second Ave. @ 12th St. I am salivating, really salivating for a pastrami sandwich, cole slaw and well-done, not greasy french fries and a Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray. Its been such a long time since I indulged so please indulge me! Thanks!

Fred Jaffe writes: Steve Salamon and I have been discussing possible entertainment at the Fiftieth Anniversary Reunion this summer. We are bringing our guitars and at some point during the day, will be playing some of the old songs we used to play together during regular camp hours and on some Teen Nights. Also, as Sue suggested several months ago, if some the performers at the end-of-year camp shows could obtain sheet music for their favorite songs that they performed in the shows, and are willing to sing them again at the reunion, those would be great memories to relive. I remember there was at least one piano at the hotel, maybe more in other rooms, and if sheet music is provided, Sue said she would play the piano accompaniment. I remember that in September, Ellen Bochner also wrote in that she would be also be available to play piano accompaniment. I'll call the hotel and see if it is necessary to reserve a piano for a specific time during the day.

Fred Jaffe writes: I talked to the people at the Doubletree today, and there is no charge to reserve a piano. They said they'd wheel it to the foyer area outside of our reserved room, as it won't fit into the room. (All parties have a room reserved, in the event of rain.) Now it's just up to everyone who performed a song or songs in one of the plays, to get a hold of the sheet music (for piano) for any that you would like to do at the reunion, and practice singing it, and bring it on July 17, so we can relive some great end-of-summer musical memories.

Think back to the first one nearly three years ago when fewer than fifty people attended and as a result of that reunion, many relationships were rekindled. I had no illusions about a grand party because I am more realistic than most of you. Most high school or college reunions are never very successful for a myriad of reasons. Think about that. *Let's focus on July 17th and those of us who have a touch of nostalgia for those years will come together for a last hurrah. I plan to attend as will Ellen and Andrew. Bizarre creatures of all shapes and sizes were inside just hanging out. So much of the old place was still intact -- even the 60's era 'modern' phone boothes were there. It was surreal.
